 Post subject: Too much cinnamon? Too much fromage frais/yogurt?

Hello, I am new to the forum but after reading through some of the threads I am sure I will be a regular-reader at least! :)

As others have mentioned in another thread I too am very confused. It appears the book says certain foods are free foods but after reading some of the comments, some should be limited.

The one thing that appealed to me about the diet was the fact that you can use sweetener. I have a terrible sweet tooth so eat quite a bit of fat free no sugar fromage frais and yogurt sweetened with sweetener and loads of cinnamon. I am disappointed to read that not only the yogurt but the sweetener should be limited per day. Does anyone know if cinnamon should be limited as well? I use a few tablespoons each time, so quite a bit each day.

I don't understand why he states in the book that these foods are free foods if they aren't!! :cry:

Sweetener shouldn't be limited, it's a sugar alcohol and does not generate an insulin response, so your body isn't encouraged to store fat.

As for cinnamon, eat as much as you like, it's a spice. Nutritionally negligible, flavour plentiful.

That post about the sweetener bit, I'd need to check where it says in the book to limit it, but from my experience of nutrition you can eat as much sweetener as you like and not put on weight.

He doesn't limit it in the book. Have just seen here and I believe on the website that it should be limited to six sweetener servings a day. If that is true it seems odd he wouldn't say it in the book and mis lead people. I am happy to hear that you don't limit it and it works. :)

WJS and Greg - the doc's coaches have said on his website that sweeteners are limited to 8 doses (whatever that may be) a day. Personally I think that is rubbish. If you use stevia it has no calories, if you use Splenda it has calories, BUT if you can get liquid Splenda (not available in Australia) it has no calories - so the Da Vinci syrups have no calories.

Cinnamon is not restricted (at least so far :lol: ).

There are many inconsistencies between the book and his coaching site, also many more of the FB pages from his mods.

Loraine, thank you for that explanation. I was first using "Candarelle" which is aspartame but now using "Hermesetas" in liquid form which is saccharin. I read that it is better to use than aspartame and contains no calories.It is good news that it is not limited, I would struggle otherwise.

However, it is still disappointing to learn I am eating too much yogurt/fromage frais so I will try not to eat as much. Thank you again.

That bit about the sweetener as far as Dukan goes is nutritionally flawed though.

I am eating about 16 oz of ff greek yogurt a day (of course with cocoa power or vanilla and sweetener)
I know it's a lot but it is my only guilty pleasure. I'm still down 12 lbs in 13 days so I will continue unless
my loss stops...

Well, lots of dairy can stall, I think the "limit" is so that you don't have too much dairy protein and eat mostly fish/meat protein. I think you need to read "unlimited" as somewhat "unlimited but common sense portions", the idea is not that you just have yoghurt all day every day.

Sweetner: some sweetners have laxative effects if you have too much of it... Not too good, but at the same time perhaps a tip for those who are constipated? :lol:
